Many youths who turned up at Bukhungu Stadium, Kakamega for the ongoing army recruitment yesterday were sent back home because of lack of original documents.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Juma Mwinyikai of Team Nine, many came without original school certificates and identification cards.
“The requirements were very clear in the media and we could not change the rules, those we sent away had photocopies of the required documents with some not meeting the minimum requirements,” he said.
Out of about 400 youths who turned up for the exercise only 11 males and 1 female were recruited. Lt Col. Mwinyikai said that in all regions that they had conducted the exercise, the turnout in Kakamega was the highest they had recorded.
He regretted that no one was recruited in the position of Defence Forces Constabularies. According to him, only two ex-soldiers turned up but they did not meet the minimum requirement to rejoin the army.
He urged many youths to turn up at the remaining regions for the exercise and they should ensure that they meet the minimum requirement because our country needs young boys and girls to defend it.
