Armed robbers Sunday morning raided Naitiri Catholic Church in Bungoma County and escaped with an unknown amount of money.
Speaking to the press after the incident, Fr. Thaddeus Ndubi, the parish priest, said that the thieves confronted him at around 5AM as he was heading for his usual morning prayers. He revealed that the thugs who were armed with pistols tied him up before forcing him to disclose where they had kept the offering.
“I cooperated and then they went straight to my bedroom as I had not closed the door,” he said.
He said that the thugs were able to get a safe containing a large amount of money, which he did not disclose.
"I was saved by my cook who responded quickly to my distress call but the raiders had already left," lamented Fr. Ndubi.
He called upon security organs in the area to roll out investigations and arrest the culprits adding that the area has witnessed an upsurging insecurity recently saying it was by grace of God that he was still alive.
He argued that robbers were now targeting places of worship because they were not heavily guarded.
