Armed robbers kill MP’s kin in cold blood

Nyeri - A prominent Nyeri businessman who is also a cousin of Kieni MP Kanini Kega has been shot dead in Mweiga town, Kieni West.
Natheniel Mutitu Gicheche was killed by armed robbers inside his shop at around 5.30am.
While confirming the incident, area Administration Police commander Francis Mbogo said two armed men entered the shop, stole unknown amount of money before killing him.
“The robbers also harassed two customers and injured one. They later escaped in a waiting car whose registration number plates had been smeared with mud,” Mbogo said.
He stated that, according to residents three suspicious men had been spotted on Tuesday night near the shop.
The police boss they have already launched investigations into the killing to bring the perpetrators to book.
Mweiga residents attributed the incident to police laxity stating that one of the injured persons rushed to a police station which is about 100 metres away but police failed to respond quickly.

“If police would have responded immediately they would have caught up with the robbers. I went to the station and found one police officer who told me he was alone in the station and therefore couldn't offer any help,” said Henry Muchai.
Muchai narrated that he entered the shop and found two armed men who harassed and assaulted him with a gun.
“I thought they were customers but after entering they ordered me to lie down,” added Muchai.
Peter Maina, a milk supplier, said he saw the businessman lying in a pool of blood as the robbers escaped.
Residents called for an overhaul of the security personnel in the area as they accused them of neglect.
The AP commander however divulged that a contingent of more than 20 police officers had been taken last night for a security operation near Solio ranch.
“At around 5.00am some officers were on their way back to their respective stations and two of them passed by the shop and purchased bread,” said Mbogo.
