Gangs terrorize Nanyuki businesses
15 January 2013, 11:11
The rate of insecurity has continued to take a heavy toll in Nanyuki as another business premise got robbed off on Monday afternoon by three heavily armed gangsters.
The 3PM crime occurred at wholesale shop near Doldol bus terminus where the three bandits stole money of an unknown value.
According to eye witnesses, the thugs shot in the air to disperse a crowd and boarded a Toyota corolla motor vehicle that was in waiting.
A few minutes after the crime, the vehicle was abandoned near the Laikipia Airbase after they realized that they were being pursued by police.
Witnesses said that the criminals took off on foot, threatening by-passers using AK47 rifles.
Laikipia East police boss Joshua Lutukai said that they are have launched a manhunt for the suspects, adding that thorough investigations are underway.
This unfolds barely three weeks after the same suspected bandits robbed off a hardware in Nanyuki town.
After robbing off the hardware, the gangsters proceeded to Sportsmans Arms Hotel where they had also planned to rob but were denied access to get in.
Minutes after their plans to get access to Sportsmans arms aborted, the thugs went to Asian Quarters estate and robbed an M-pesa outlet and later on in the evening returned to the same estate and stole from another M-pesa shop.
Last December, the same criminals are suspected to have shot dead a businessman in front of his wife and daughter at his wines and spirits premise.
