Nyeri - A suspected armed carjacker was Friday released on bond of KES 300 000 with a surety of similar amount by a Nanyuki court.
Joseph Mugambi was charged for hijacking and violently robbing Joseph Maina along Nyeri-Nanyuki road before escaping with his motorbike.
He allegedly committed the offence on July 2 jointly with others who were not before court. They were armed with a gun.
The court heard that the accused person and his accomplices used the stolen motorcycle to escape after stealing KES 20 000 and a smartphone valued at KES 8 000 belonging to Eunice Muthoni, and later robbed Peter Mathenge KES 12 300 and a mobile phone worth KES 5 000.

The suspect was after some days spotted in Nanyuki town with the motorbike by members of the public who attacked him before he was rescued by police officers.
He was escorted to Nanyuki police station where the charges were preferred against him.
However, while appearing before Chief Magistrate Teresa Matheka, the accused person denied the charges.
The case was slated to proceed on September 2, 2015.
