Angry residents lynch suspected cattle thief in Migori

Migori - One suspected cattle thief was killed while three of his accomplices escaped with serious injuries when an angry mob descended on them in Migori County.
The man was burnt to death when the crowd cornered the trio in Central Karungu location of Nyatike constituency after being found in possession of a stolen cow.
They were said to have stolen eight cows from Gwasi constituency in the neighbouring Homa Bay County before being trailed and arrested in Nyatike by the owners of the animals.
According to an eye witness, Aluoch Jakiranda, one of the suspects identified as John Alela Magawi, was lynched at his home in Nyatike after one of the stolen cows was found at his premise.
Confirming the incident, Nyatike police boss, Dishon Chebaka said that two suspects, Kennedy Ochieng (25 years) and Rasto Okumu Odhiambo (25 years) managed to escape from the angry mob after being rescued by police.
They suffered serious injuries and rushed to Karungu Sub County Hospital where they are being treated.
He said the deceased was hacked to death at his home and his body set on fire before police arrived at the scene.
Police later moved his body to St. Camilus hospital’s mortuary for preservation.

Chebaka said the three are linked to the disappearance of eight cows which went missing on December 27 in Gwasi, Homabay County.
