23 February 2015, 10:18 Philomenah Chebet

Eldoret - Angry Moi University students who were protesting the alleged rape and murder of their fellow colleague on Sunday morning set ablaze a police vehicle at the institution's main campus.

The police officers had gone to retrieve the body of the third-year student whose body was found dumped near one of the hostels  early Sunday morning, when the irate students pelted their vehicle with stones.

The students overpowered the officers who fled leaving behind their Land Cruiser car, that was overturned by the protesters before setting it on fire.

“Why are the police coming to take the lifeless body of a comrade who was killed in cold blood and yet they cannot protect the students from the killers?” posed one student.

Charity Maina’s lifeless body was discovered Sunday morning by people going to church near the higher institution of learning's main stage. The deceased student, who was in the schools of arts and social sciences, was staying in a rental house near the university.

The body of the third-year student was later taken to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary for preservation by the university ambulance.
