Nairobi - Police have been forced to react after a police officer was killed by a gang in Nairobi and have arrested a number of people believed to have leads to the killing.
The policeman, an Inspector Zack Kamala was killed by the gang Monday morning and police have since increased patrols and swoops in the eastlands Area of Nairobi to catch up with the assailants.
The swoops affected Donholm, Umoja, Jericho and BuruBuru estates.
Kamala was allegedly killed after the gang attacked him and attempted to rob him of his personal effects including his phone, money and a laptop.
BuruBuru police chief Charles Kerich told News24 that the killers are being hunted down and will be caught.
" We have been losing too many people to this gang and we are on their trail. I can assure members of the public that we will find them, he said.
The heightened state of insecurity in the Eastlands region has been blamed to the increased number of guns that marauding youth have access to.
Kerich stated that police were aware of the situation and that they were on the case.
Close to 100 people were arrested in swoops Monday night in the aftermath of the killing of the police officer and more and more are expected in the coming days as police seek out the killer gang.
