Al Shabaab kidnap Mandera chief

Nairobi - The Al Shabaab militia group has attacked and kidnapped an area chief in Mandera.
The militants are said to have attacked a van ferrying Miraa early Thursday and kidnapped the chief, Mandera Senator Billow Kerrow confirmed to News24.
" We have now had a chief kidnapped. The government has to do better otherwise we will lose more people to terror attacks, Kerrow said on phone.
The attack took place in Arabia area Mandera, a County that has bore the brunt of attacks from Shabaab in recent years thanks to its proximity to the border with Somalia.
Kerrow also called on the government to intensify patrols and ensure the safety of the region, which he says risks being isolated by the Shabaab.
" We need the government to do something or we will risk losing Mandera to terrorists," he added.
In the last one year, close to 100 lives have been lost in attacks from across the border, with the government struggling to impose itself on the region.
