Airtel sponsors Masaku 7s rugby tournament

Machakos - Airtel Kenya Monday announced its sponsorship of the third edition of the Masaku 7s rugby tournament that will be held at the Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos from 27th to 29th June 2014.
The competitive event will bring together sixteen teams that have confirmed participation. Five foreign teams including two from Uganda are expected to participate in the tournament.
The tournament will also feature a schools category with six schools participating in the tournament.
Airtel Kenya CEO Adil El Youssefi emphasized Airtel’s commitment to the promotion of sports across the county when he presented the sponsorship cheque to the organizing committee.
“Rugby is one of the fastest growing Kenyan sports and we will continually support opportunities like this for talented youth in Kenya to connect with each other through their passion for the sport. This tournament will create a long-term positive impact on the players and on their game. Our customers are assured of uninterrupted voice, SMS and data services. Customers will access customer service and sales points at the games venue throughout the tournament,” he said.
Machakos County Governor Alfred Mutua expressed his delight at Airtel’s support for the County through reliable network coverage.
He also thanked Airtel for its continued support of the Masaku Sevens tournament, acknowledging its achievement.
He commended the organizers and sponsors for making it a success saying that his government will continue to promote, support and develop different sporting activities and sports education.
The tournament will kick off on 27th June with a secondary schools competition that has attracted a total of six schools led by Rugby powerhouses Alliance Boys and Kakamega High Schools.
Defending champions Strathmore University will lead the way in the clubs contest which kicks off on Saturday.
The Masaku 7s rugby tournament turns 2 years this year and is the biggest fixture in the rugby calendar to be held in Eastern province.
The tournament is expected to attract more than 5,000 rugby enthusiasts who are drawn from cities and towns across the country.
