Airtel launches new mobile banking product

20 August 2013, 16:33 Kelvin Wanjohi

Nairobi - Airtel Kenya has entered into a partnership with Equatorial Commercial bank to enable the bank customers access financial services through Airtel money.

Speaking during the launch of the product on Tuesday, Airtel Kenya Managing Director Shivan Bhargava said that the customers will now be able to deposit and withdraw cash and pay bills as long as they have access to Airtel Money agents who are all over the country.

“This mobile banking industry is a fast growing phenomenon and with mobile banking, business people can analyse their business transactions without having to visit their banks which is easier and less costly,” he said.

He assured that the company will stay committed to ensure that clients using the Airtel Money service will have fast, friendly and safer transactions despite the location or distance.

Equatorial Commercial Bank Managing Director, Sammy Itemere, said that the partnership will offer their customers an opportunity to access the bank from anywhere in the country.

“We are targeting every person in the country, both the retail and SME sectors and we are not leaving even the larger business community out,” he added.

He said that this will enable them to make payments conveniently to their suppliers hence reducing time wastage as well as increasing efficiency.

This comes after the communication service provider, which is the second largest in the country, partnered with Equity bank to offer the same product with the aim of reaching out to a wider population.
