Activist Boniface Mwangi detained in Paris with family

04 September 2015, 13:04 Eugene Odanga

Nairobi - Award winning Kenyan photojournalist and social-political activist Boniface Mwangi is was recently detained in Paris with his entire family. He and his family were on their way back to Nairobi from New York when this unfortunate incident took place, leaving them stranded in an airport for more than 24 hours.

The reason behind them being detained was that the airline that they were flying with delayed by an hour causing them to miss their connection flight. The tickets that they were given there after required them to have a Schengen visas, but the airline neglected to inform the family of this.

All in the name of trying to keep out illegal immigrants, the French police refused to let them leave the airport despite them having to be there for more than 24 hours.

Boniface protested their treatment on his social media page.

“We are stranded in France not because we want to but the airline made a mistake and we the paying passengers are suffering.” He went on to add “I went back to the border police base to ask about the denial and the officer l found couldn't even look at me. The French police may justify they're trying to keep out illegal immigrants but the lack of empathy, understanding and zero effort in listening to us hurts.”

Take a look at some of the pictures he took of the ordeal here.
