Nakuru - The Managing Director Kenya Reinsurance Cooperation, Jadiah Mwarania, has said road accidents are the main cause of physical disabilities in the country.
Mwarania added that there is need for extensive road safety and disability awareness to help reduce road carnage in the country.
“Various stakeholders need to come together and help conduct an awareness on road safety on our roads,” he said.
Speaking on Thursday morning during the launch of a caravan which will distribute assistive devices to persons with disability in Rift Valley, Nyanza and Western, Mwarania said the caravan will also be sensitising the public on the need to appreciate persons with disability.
He further said that the public should embrace persons with the disability by engaging them in work through employment opportunities.
The director said that soon they will be going around the 47 counties empowering persons with disabilities.
“This caravan will be distributing wheelchairs, crutches, tricycles, walking frames and other devices to persons with disabilities,” he said.
He confirmed that they are targeting 100 persons with physical disabilities in the three regions during the caravan tour.
Mwarania said the initiative which runs under Niko Fiti campaign is also seeking to help the physically challenged people to get the social and physical rehabilitation sponsored by Association for the Physically Disabled of Kenya (APDK).
