Accident kills 2, leaves 4 hospitalized

26 March 2013, 16:13 Wangui Joseph

Two men perished Monday evening while four others are hospitalized after a horrible road accident that involved a car and a lorry along Murang’a-Sagana road.

The two were in a probox car heading from Murang’a when it lost control while trying to overtake a PSV vehicle and plunged into a trench some metres away from the road.

The driver of the lorry that was transporting bricks from Sagana also meandered, following the car into bushes.

According to Makuyu police boss Grace Gatimu, the car first rolled severally before landing into the ditch as the area is sloppy.

The heavy lorry followed it in the same direction.

Gatimu said the car’s driver was over speeding and overtaking carelessly.

Four people who had occupied the lorry were critically injured and were rushed to Murang’a district hospital while the bodies of the deceased were taken to the infirmary’s morgue.

The bodies were removed from the wreckage with bad injuries and cuts.

Reportedly, the car was owned to miraa transporters businessmen and plied along the busy road regularly.

The police boss said occasional road accidents in the area are due to over speeding, careless driving and the ‘don’t care attitude’ among majority of the road users.

She appealed to all drivers to be taking care whatsoever, notwithstanding that they are in business and are after making money.

She however assured locals that traffic officers will launch an intense operation to catch up with the wayward drivers.
