Accident claims pupil life

A class six pupil died on the spot after she was hit by an over speeding Nissan matatu at Miruriri market in Igoji area in Imenti South District of Meru County.

Igoji civic leader John Paul Kireria said the accident occurred at around 6pm when the girl was hit by the vehicle that was traveling from Nairobi towards Meru town while crossing the road near Miruriri Market.

"The deceased Joy Karwitha who was a pupil at Miruriri primary school was coming from the nearby Kathigu factory after delivering coffee berries together with other children when the accident occurred," said the civic leader.

He said the other children had already crossed the road and the deceased was trying to catch-up with them before looking sideways when the tragedy occurred accident occurred.

He said the body was removed to Meru level-5 Hospital mortuary for postmortem analysis and urged all the road users to ensure they adhere to the road traffic rules in order to avoid unnecessary accident
