Abromavich's decisions are messing his club

19 December 2012, 10:34 Paul Orodi

When emotions cloud your judgement be sure everything else will fail.

We all have love for whatever we own but it is important to make decisions based on facts and analyzed data rather than personal feeling and sense of authority. These two attributes can make one regret their decisions and choices.

At west London, the Russian billionaire,Roman Abramovich is facing a hard time with his team loosing battles on all fronts. The Russian is famous for his love for Chelsea football club and the silverware in all competitions that the club participates in. For him, a loss is as big as death. He never wants to record a loss at all costs.

Revolving door of managers

In his tenure as owner since 2003, he has interacted with over 8 managers starting from Claudio Ranieri and recently cutting ties with the Champions league winner; Roberto Di Matteo. Di Matteo lost his job after failing to show ambition to reclaim the European title. This did not sit well with the Russian and so he sent the Italian packing. It was a harsh decision considering the amount of pressure mounted on the former Blues midfielder to triumph a second time consecutive, something no team has ever done.

With the sacking of Di Matteo, Chelsea fans wanted the Russian to throw the net into the deep waters and capture the former Catalan manager; Pep Guardiola. The Spaniard is on his sabbatical leave from soccer business but Chelsea fans knew with the deep pockets that Abramovic has it was only a matter of sending over a private jet to collect the highly decorated coach. When this seemed impossible, the Russian settled for a less \desired man; former Liverpool manager, Rafael Benitez.

The appointment of Benitez as manager was like a bitter pill to the fans simply because of how his remarks about Chelsea were carved when he was still at Anfield. Ever since taking over, the fans have kept on chanting anti-Benitez slogans and calling for the return of Roberto Di Matteo. This is a clear indication that Benitez may be there for less than a month. To top it off, the Spaniard has kicked off his era with two draws and a loss leaving the west Londoners with a record only seen way back in 1995. All this are a sign that Rafa, as he is commonly known won’t last any day longer than 20 days.

All these happenings stem from the poor judgement that the Russian has kept on delivering. They have haunted the club and now he is at across roads. Reports are currently claiming that he has made frantic efforts to have Avram Grant, one of the many managers he sacked, come back to take charge as director of football or somthing closer to that. The Israeli has not officially released a statement to that effect as of today at 6pm but am sure as hours pass by he will be forced to make a statement.

Whether the problems at Cobham come to an end or not is up to the Russian to act in a manner that allows people under him perform their duties without any fear or prejudice. Working in an environment where you don’t know where the axe will fall is a difficult task. And I am sure the players are feeling the heat of the moment and this is obviously affecting their performance.
