Ababu must carry his own cross, says ODM chief

05 March 2015, 14:09 William Korir

Nairobi - Ababu Namwamba must clear his name of corruption allegations, Orange Democratic Movement ODM Minority Chief Whip Jakoyo Midiwo has said.

Ababu is under investigation as the head of the Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee PAC for alleged bribery and misappropriation of funds.

Last week, he barely survived an impeachment motion by members of the PAC but the motion has now been pushed forward and will be debated by the whole house after majority leader Aden Duale Wednesday put forward a motion to have the Budalangi MP probed.

Midiwo, despite being a part of Ababu's ODM, says that the MP's alleged conduct or actions are risky and might give the whole house a bad name and thus he must be investigated and cleared of the charges so as to continue with his job.

" He must be cleared. I think that for the sake of the house as a whole and the integrity of the function this house plays, it is important that everyone be cleared," he said.

" Let us ensure that we have a house of integrity. We need it, he added.

The matter is set to be addressed by Speaker Justin Muturi.

Ababu survived the impeachment vote against him last week 14 by 13 votes, after four MPs failed to vote.

He has termed the allegations against him as politically instigated and has vowed to fight to clear his name.

The PAC is one of the most powerful committees in parliament.
