The body of an administration police officer attached to the Emuhaya District Commissioner’s residence was discovered on Saturday in the bush near Kima Market.
The body that had several bullet wounds was discovered by police officers who had been informed of the incident by their colleague who was on guard that night.
Two spent cartridges were found at the scene, but the deceased officer’s G3 rifle was missing.
According to the witness, the officer left the DC’s residence at around 1Am never to come back as he was attacked a few metres from there.
Confirming the incident, Emuhaya district administration police commandant Pius Sambu said the officer had gone to answer a call of nature when gunshots were heard.
“Officers guarding the District Commissioner’s resident responded to the gunshots only to find their colleague in a pool of blood and gasping for breath,” said the commandant.
According to Sambu, the attackers must have used the deceased officer’s gun to kill him.
The attack on the officer came at the height of insecurity in the county.
High waves of criminal activities have been reported in the region where a retired Deputy Provincial Police Officer was robbed off his personal gun at Givole in Hamisi constituency recently.
The retired officer was attacked at his home by a gang of armed robbers who were baying for his blood and was thus badly injured in the process.
Many people in the region now fear that the area OCPD Lawrence Garama is incompetent because of the increased cases of insecurity.
In the last few months, over six suspected robbers have been burned to death, but seemingly, crime is yet to be tamed in the region.
