Nyeri - A 28-year-old Administration Police constable attached to a Nyeri Catholic Convent on Wednesday shot himself dead.
The officer, identified as Francis Mburu, committed suicide by blowing off his skull with a bullet fired from his G3 rifle.
A fracas ensued at the Convent as police officers led by area OCPD Adiel Nyange roughed up journalists who had turned up to cover the incident.
The officer almost broke the camera of a TV journalist who was metres away from the periphery of the scene of crime.

Later, a landrover was rammed at the entrance of the building where the officer committed suicide as the body was speedily whisked out of the scene, with the OCPD also declining to speak to the meida.
Mburu is reported to have returned to the camp from his rural home four days ago where he had gone to check on his family.
The young officer was married and had a child aged less than five years, and was at the time pursuing a degree in Security Management at Kenyatta University, Nyeri campus.
“We are still wondering why he killed himself because we had not heard him being in any conflict with anybody,” said a colleague who declined to be named since he is not authorized to speak to the media.
