ADC given ultimatum to repossess land

Leaders in Kilifi County have issued the Agricultural Development Corporation (ADC) a two-month ultimatum to repossess all their grabbed land failure to which they would take and divide it among squatters in the area.
Sabaki Ward Representative in Kilifi County Edward Kazungu Dele said that they (leaders) will not sit down and watch land grabbers grabbing land in the area while locals living there are still squatters.
Speaking in Malindi on Thursday, Dele said that the ADC land which is over 3 000 acres has not been utilized as expected thus creating room for land grabbers.
“The Agricultural Development Corporation (ADC) has over 3 000 acres of land in the area but are currently using only 500 acres and that is why a lot of land has been grabbed by tycoons,” he noted.
He observed that the corporation has less than 600 cattle in Malindi currently instead of 3 000 which were there before, saying that locals are not benefiting from the corporation.
“There are no major activities taking place on ADC land and that is why land grabbers have taken advantage but this time round we are going to deal with them decisively,” he noted with concern.
The County Representative said that ADC should consider reviving the project and repossessing all land grabbed by tycoons.
“If they don’t revive the project and repossess all grabbed land, we will forcefully evict the grabbers and divide the land amongst squatters in the area,” he warned.
