A student dies after abortion

20 June 2012, 11:48James Kabotia

A form 3 student of Tigithi Secondary school has been reported dead after committing an abortion at Matanya sub-location in Laikipia County.

Caroline Wanja Wanyaga, 19, met her demise last week when efforts to ferry her to the nearest clinic became unfruitful.

According to the area Assistant Chief Patrick Mathenge, the girl died after aborting twins.

The Laikipia East OCPD Joshua Lutukai condemned the chief’s step of issuing a burial permit to the deceased parents yet investigations have not been conducted.

Lutukai ordered the OCS of Matanya Police post to visit the scene and find out why the chief gave out the burial permit without informing the police.

The body will be buried tomorrow.

Meanwhile, a 50 year old man has also been reported dead in the same area after drowning in Tigithi river.

Lutukai said that the man who hails from Kihato village was heading back to his home from Narumoru when he got drowned at 1am.

James Githi Mwangi’s body was recovered four days after, and he is suspected to have been heavily drunk.

In the same sub-location at Kamangura village, an unknown man was found dead on the road side.

The police commander also confirmed the incident saying that the male adult was a mental patient adding that his body was taken to Nanyuki Hospital mortuary.
