A simple formula for your success journey: Habit Shift

Nairobi - There is a common trend the world over to spend bigger with salary increment. If you start earning 5,000 more of your income today, you’re likely to upgrade to a posh lifestyle.
There is always an urge to get a better car, a bigger screen, move to a high-end suburb, buy designer clothes and blow the extra pay in all ways possible. Let’s be honest here, upgrading is not bad in itself, but how about saving the extra money for a hay day or even a much stylish lifestyle in future?
As your regular life shifts and creeps up slowly, with items earlier perceived as a luxury now a necessity, chances are you will miss a lot of big opportunities to save and invest. Remember that adage, “the speed of your success is limited only by your dedication and what you're willing to sacrifice”- Nathan Morris.
The idea here is to change your spending habits and set up long-term goals that will help you attain the stylish lifestyle you want. If your goals included establishing a business that will raise your monthly and annual earnings, then it will only be fair to get yourself a new car and the newest gadget on the shelves, only after you achieve these goals. Otherwise, if you are using all the extra to live lavishly, pose, you are on the wrong path.
Changing behavior is not easy, but with time, it is possible. Make small adjustments each day and you will realize the change in the long term. Don’t buy something that you don’t need at the moment just because it’s on the counter and you have extra money. Think long term. There is no excuse. If you are an average earner, save whatever you can, even 100 shillings a day can make a big difference.
Suppress the urge to grow and transform too fast; it will only hurt you in the end. Would you still live comfortably if you lost your job today? Would you be able to pay for your car loan every month after being retrenched? If your answer is no here, pose again, you need to get on the right track. Ditch habits that will not help and sustain you, rather, adopt better spending habits day by day.
This way, you will realize that as your regular habits improve, your results will as well.
I call this idea Habit Shift because it’s all about slowly shifting usual unhealthy habits to better ones, to achieve greater results in the long term. Start changing unhealthy habits today!
