A-WEB partners with IEBC to strengthen elections

16 December 2014, 09:30 Nechesa Chemoi

Nairobi - The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has partnered with the Association of World Election Bodies (A-WEB) to strengthen the electoral system in the country.

A statement from the IEBC said a delegation from A-WEB, an international body that promotes democracy with its headquarter in Seoul, South Korea, is in the country to seal the partnership.

The delegation is made up of programme developers, network experts and project managers, among others.

Speaking during a meeting with IEBC Commissioners and senior management, the head of delegation, Mr. Suyong Choi, said: “In supporting electoral organizations globally, A-WEB has chosen to begin with the IEBC due to the good working relations that IEBC has had with the body.”

IEBC chairperson welcomed the idea of AWEB providing support especially on matters of Information Communication and Technology (ICT) and other key areas which need strengthening in preparation for the 2017 General Election.

The A-web team promised to provide experts to train and share experiences with election officials for the general election in 2017.

They will first conduct a research programme to identify key electoral areas, which they can partner well with IEBC to improve on.
