80 year old raped by a man who is 21

22 June 2012, 15:32 Alloys Musyoka

Provincial administrations have arrested a 21 year old man for allegedly raping an 80 year old grandmother at her farm at Pumwani village in Magarini district.

According to Magarini location area sub-chief Albert Kazungu, the elderly woman had gone at her shamba which is one and half kilometers away from her homestead when the incident occurred.

He said the suspect was grazing his cattle nearby the farm of the elderly woman where he the suspect tiptoed and grasped the woman before he raped her.

Huzuni Kahindi the suspect, Chief Kazungu added that he had threatened to kill the elderly woman if at all she attempted to report the matter to anybody.

“I was called from my office in Marikebuni after the incident because the woman ran home and reported, then I instructed village elders to seal all openings used by pastoralists to take their cattle in the area where we managed to arrest the suspect,” said Chief Kazungu.

He said Kahindi was identified by the elderly woman after he was arrested and escorted to Marikebuni police post before he was taken to Malindi police station though Malindi police boss Kiprono Lang’at said there was no such case reported at the station.

“We have not received such case in the police station and nobody has been arrested over such incident,” dismissed the OCPD.

The Chief went further to add that they took the woman to Marikebuni dispensary for treatment before she was transferred to Malindi district Hospital where she was treated and discharged.

He condemned the act and said that the suspect will be taken to court after investigations to serve as deterrent to other who might be planning to commit the same offence in future from the area.

“There have been no such incidents in the area and we are condemning the act,” he noted.

Currently Chief Kazungu said the suspect is being held at Malindi police station.
