791 M NYS 'fraudster' Gethi to be charged with tax evasion

Nairobi - Ben Gethi, the alleged mastermind of the KES 791 million fraud at the National Youth Service NYS is set to be charged with tax evasion, Police have proposed.
Gethi, who is co-accused together with Josephine Kabura have been mentioned in other quarters of stealing the funds and placing it in personal accounts.
The Criminal Investigations Department CID states in a file sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions DPP that the two have not accounted for their tax and thus need to be punished heavily for not doing so.
" The Kenya Revenue Authority KRA demands that the suspects be charged under the Economic Crimes Act for disservice and injustice to the public," the statement added.
Gethi as well as others are also in court charged over the loss of the 791 million.
The saga has seen senior officials at the Ministry lose their jobs.
