7 tips to make your marriage work

11 May 2016, 18:34 Nyambura Mwirikia

After all the longing for Mr. Right and then the endless relationship goals right up to the one where he proposes and then planning your dream wedding and even getting a feature spread in a celeb magazine, the last thing you want is a messy separation and an even messier divorce so here are 7 marriage safeguards that deliver as promised:

There will be offenses, some more than you can bear but as many times as your heart can bear, forgive. Remember marriage wasn't created to be perfect; it is what you make it.

Keep your drama off social media!

There is never a good enough reason to call your spouse out to a bunch of strangers and acquaintances. Keep your personal life private and limit unnecessary displays because they put pressure on you to keep up the perfect marriage.

Work on your altitude

Yes you will go bananas but don't let it affect others. Don't keep your best side for those outside. Build up your man especially with your words, don't wear him down. Most men cheat because their women have made them feel less than worthy with their words, altitude and they just need some respect and the ego boost that the sweet words of a calculating other woman brings.

 Don't be afraid to fight!

Arguments don't break a marriage, poor conflict resolution does. So don't be afraid of the conflict, embrace it! It helps you let off steam and put to rest issues that offend or bother you, just ensure you resolve the conflict to a point where both parties can safely move on as a stronger unit.

If his lack of attention is making you cast second glances at that guy, let him know. If you can't stand his late nights, make it known. Employ tact and speak the truth in love and you'll be surprised how liberating it is.

 Bring something on the table.

You cannot expect to receive all the love, support, sacrifices, financial assistance, attention, and not give anything in return. That's plain selfish and is a ticking bomb to your marriage, a cause of fights in many modern marriages.

Keep it fun in the bedroom.

Sex should never be a chore or a dirge! It's a light hearted song you sing with your best friend and you should enjoy every note, every verse and sing along to the chorus each and every time! Give it your best if you want to  keep your man.
