65-year-old woman stripped naked for stealing Chama money

21 June 2016, 12:05 Godfrey Olukya

Kampala - Drama ensued at Kireka village on the outskirts of Kampala Tuesday morning when a group of 12 women stripped their fellow 'chama' member naked accusing her of stealing their money.

Police have identified the woman as Angella Nabukenya, the group's Treasurer.

She reportedly stole UGX 6 million from a local women's group, money that was meant for development.

According to a statement recorded by one of her strippers by the name Brown Kawa, Nabukenya disappeared with their money three months ago and relocated to where they traced her today, about 10 KMs away.

She cried for help as the women beat her up before stripping her naked but people simply gathered around to cheer on her strippiers.

Police officer Michael Wanyama who led the team that went to her rescue said that by the time they reached the scene, she was totally naked with the women beating her severely.

''We forced the women to return her clothes and sit down with her to solve their problem amicably instead of torturing her,'' said Wanyama.

Religious leaders and politicians have condemned the act.
