Nakuru - More than 60 drivers were nabbed in Nakuru town Saturday night for driving under the influence of alcohol.
The traffic police officers who had laid ambush in various streets of Nakuru town arrested the drivers as they stepped out of their drinking dens.
The operation which was led by Nakuru County Traffic Commandant, Marry Omari saw some drivers attempt to escape on foot while others opted to use opposite lanes to run away from the road blocks that had been set up by the police officers.
Omari said that Saturday was the most ideal day for such an operation.
“Most of the accidents take place over the weekend and that is why we have decided to carry out this operation on this day to catch up with those who do not follow traffic rules,” she said.
She said that her officers will not relent in fight against errant drivers as she reiterated the government's commitment to reduce cases of road carnage in the country.
She also downplayed their move to lay ambush outside pubs saying the operation was not being conducted in one specific location.
