Bungoma - A six-year-old from Mundulu village in Shinyalu constituency is fighting for his life at the Moi Teaching and Referral hospital in Eldoret after robbers invaded their home, raped and then killed his 40-year-old mother.
The deceased, Agnes Lumusi is said to have received threats from unknown people before meeting her death on Monday night.
Her mother in-law said Lumusi had informed her about the threats and had planned to report the matter to the village elder as the husband works in Nairobi.
"Security is wanting in this region. Officers and leaders should help arrest these criminals; we are worried who will be the next victim,” she said.
One of the suspects, Seth Shamala is said to have been arrested in 2000 for killing his brother but later released in 2004 for lack of enough evidence, according to his father.

"Seth has been a threat to the family and badly relates with us. He raped his own mother; his brothers and I are paralysed because of the beating we receive from him daily,” added Shamala.
Residents are now demanding for more officers to be posted in the area as chiefs are colluding with offenders.
“Crime has increased as many youths are engaging in drugs, gambling and drinking of chang’aa. At least 10 people from this village have lost their lives in past years through such attacks,” a neighbour said.
Confirming the incident, Shinyalu OCPD Joseph Chebil thanked residents for helping police to arrest three suspects linked to the crime.
“Three people have been arrested and are jail birds who have been in custody for various offenses including robbery with violence and rape. They injured the six-year-old boy, raped and killed her mother using a machete,” Chebil narrated.
The suspects will be arraigned in court once investigations are concluded. The body of the deceased has been taken to Kakamega County Hospital mortuary while the child is undergoing treatment at Moi referral Eldoret.
