6 things men wish women knew

26 February 2015, 18:00 Shakila Alivitsa

Nairobi - There are things men do not say, but they wish their ladies knew.

The local is a fine enough dining experience for him

You know the way Kenyans are identified as people with weird habits. The men win hands down and you will not find the rich men at the places charging Kshs 5000 a plate. It does not matter whether he has millions or even billions in his account, the local is his joint. He will go to the fancy places for business meetings or the annual treat for his wife, but when he wants to relax and chill with his colleagues he does not want to think of what fork he should use with what plate. He wants to eat nyama choma and belch beer and laugh uproariously without a care in the world. That is why trying to get him to your fine dining outing on a weekend is a hustle. You know he has the money, you wonder why he does not want to. Not because he is stingy but because he sees it as a process that ruins his enjoyment.

I will give you a test; go through your memory bank and think back why you wondered those big cars were packed at that rundown inn.

Do not eat his food because you ordered a salad

Back to the fine dining; but in this case what you order. You knew it was a treat, you ordered something that the waiter had to help you pronounce, now you do not want to eat it. Instead you want to taste the usual steak he ordered for himself that you berated because he did not step out of his comfort zone. He is also hungry and now you make him share his food, if he does not you sulk. (Shaking my head).

It is easier if you just tell him what you want for a present

No, he is not trying to be cute or judging you. He just wants to get you what you want so that some effort and MONEY is not wasted on something that you probably would not like. Saves everyone the agony of silent treatment and sulking or shouting matches.

At times guys are clueless when it comes to gift giving. If he asks what you want, do not make it out that he is unromantic it is just him getting to the point quicker rather than a few steps later when you want to return it for something else.

Try to initiate at times

It can be asking for the number, a date, or even just sex. Men are afraid of rejection too, and when you are bold enough to approach someone it gives you a few more points than the beauty who is sat opposite you.

The mother will always be number one

Yes, we know some treat you like the help, others like they wish you were in another planet or others just drag you through the mud even while he is there. There is no help for this, you just have to bear it. Just be happy that at least we are not living in communal homesteads like long ago. Most probably you just have to endure it during the month long visit in December.

Knowing how to cook does not hurt

He is not asking for Michelin style cooking but Ugali and meat is a step. For most guys, him being at home and getting hungry, a sandwich will not work as one of my friends said, he views it as breakfast because in his head it is bread. Does not matter what you put in it, it is breakfast.
