Did you know that certain foods could increase your motivation and lift your confidence?
We feel good about ourselves when we know we are treating our bodies with care.
When you eat healthy, you increase your confidence levels.
Eating foods that contain tryptophan, serotonin and amino acids activate the feel-good hormones in the brain. Add these to your shopping basket to boost your happiness and confidence:
It is also known as brain food. Adding fish to your diet has great benefits. It contains essential fats that change the composition of the nerve cell membrane and make you feel happier. Fish like salmon helps improve brain functioning, while sardines and tuna contain lots of serotonin. If you don't like fish, you may want to try fish oil supplements instead. The Omega-3 fatty acids contained in the fish can help prevent low mood and depression as they affect the neurotransmitter pathways in the brain. Ensure you are eating at least one portion of oily fish a week.
If you want to feel good inside and project a positive image of yourself onto others, there is no better way than eating dark chocolates! Dark chocolate contains phenylethylamine which produces serotonin in the brain, boosting your happiness and well-being. Eating dark chocolate also tends to reduce feelings of anxiety and stress, which will help you feel more confident.

Garlic, sage, lemon balm – all these herbs are great confidence-boosters! They tend to have positive effects on brain functioning, and often work as anti-depressants. Lavender has essential oil that has calming properties that help control emotional stress. It also has a soothing effect on nerves and can relieve nervous tension and depression as well as treating headaches and migraines.
Similar to dark chocolate and fish, green vegetables like spinach contain serotonin, as well as iron and folic acid. This combination will trigger the production of serotonin and help give you a lift of confidence! Foods like spinach, broccoli, meat, dairy and eggs are great sources of B vitamins. This vitamin is thought to increase levels of serotonin in the brain. Also include foods in your diet that contain vitamin D such as eggs, oily fish, yoghurt and fortified cereals.
Binging on nuts such as almonds, cashews and peanuts that contain large quantities of serotonin regularly can help increase happiness and confidence consequently. If you have low serotonin levels and bad mood, try to include foods like lean meat, whole grains, brazil nuts, oats, beans/legumes, seafood, nuts and seeds.
Cheese can do wonders on our self- esteem. Even a cube of cheese can help you feel happier and more confident, as they contain zinc that reduces feelings of anxiety and depression. As long as you don't consume large amounts, it'll do you a bit of good.
When you eat healthy, nutritious foods with a guilt-free mindset, your body and mind relax and you stop double guessing yourself. This makes you more confident and lets your inner light shine.
