Nyeri - Residents of Mukurwe-ini, Nyeri County are in shock after realising that a 53-year-old woman bought a baby for KES 7 000 in order to please her husband.
Henry Thuku accused his wife Eunice Wangechi of buying the one-week-old baby from another woman identified as Virginia Wairimu Mwangi.
The two women appeared before a Nyeri court where they were charged with baby trafficking.
“I knew she could not bear children due to her age but trusted her when she said she was pregnant. I am really disappointed that she had duped me and bought the baby,” said Thuku.

Thuku said the wife had even been faking morning sicknesses and had weird cravings – just like any pregnant woman – and he therefore had every reason to believe she was on the way to giving him a baby.
On the day she was to 'deliver', Thuku was upbeat to accompany her to the maternity but she declined.
“I therefore reported to work and was very happy when she finally told me 'our baby had been safely delivered," narrated distraught Thuku.
"But three days after she returned home with the baby, the area chief came to our home in the company of police and demanded to see my wife," he added, saying he was shocked to realise the baby had been bought.
