A 50 year old man who allegedly squandered proceeds of his family business on booze was yesterday beaten senseless by his wife in Rarieda District.
Drama unfolded at Kochar village- South Uyoma location in Siaya County when the helpless man, in drunken stupor received a thorough beating from his wife and child.
The man, Charles Ochar Okuku, could not match the wife as his own punches ended up throwing him off balance, making him an easy target for the angry lady and son who used an assortment of crude weapons to pump sense on him.
According to the area councilor, John Mira Mirambe, trouble started when the man went to the nearby beach where the family boat operates and collected the day’s proceeds from the operators, and instead of heading home, joined friends in a drinking den.
After several rounds of beer, he staggered home only to find his 35 year old wife, Anne Atieno waiting.
“The wife asked for the day’s collection and when she was told that the husband had earlier been given, she became mad and started beating him up” said the councilor.
He said that the man was floored as the wife beat him senselessly using fire wood and other crude weapons she could lay her hands on.
Okuku was left writhing in pain unconsciously.
On regaining consciousness, Okuku wobbled his way to Naya Health Centre for treatment before seeking intervention from councilor Mirambe.
The civic leader who condemned the incident, later helped reconcile the family and adviced that violence should not be used in settling marital disputes.
