Residents of Rang’wena village in Homa Bay Town are a worried lot after a 5-year old girl was defiled in by a middle aged man.
According to the girl’s mother, the assailant lured the minor with sweets to accompany him to Rang’wena hills where he defiled her severally.
The incident which happened yesterday has left the residents wondering after a similar scenario on Thursday last week, where a 5 year old girl was also defiled in the same village.
During the month of April two defilements cases were reported where a physically challenged girl was also defiled.
Catholic Church Justice and peace Commission activist, Terresa Gwengi has decried over the rising number of defilement cases in the town blaming it on laxity of the Provincial Administration officials who are reluctant to arrest the culprits.
Gwengi who is also the director of Upendo Women group further blamed it on the ignorance of the parents of the victims who are at times compromised for monetary gains.
She appealed to parents to ensure they monitor movement of their children and also advised them not to accept goodies from people they do not know.
The girl was taken to Homa bay District Hospital for medication while police officers have launched a manhunt for the culprit.
