5 things to consider before going back to your ex

28 January 2016, 11:34 Agneta Murii

So you think you want your ex back? Well, obviously it won't work if things remain the same as they were prior to the breakup. In any case, you must allow plenty of time to recover and regain your sense of self before attempting reconciliation.

Here are things to consider:

1. Do you want your ex to be happy with or without you?

If you feel that your ex can only be happy with your presence, you are sadly mistaken. If you do not want this person to be happy without you, that is not real love. Any attempts of getting back with your ex will end up hurting both of you. Do not be possessive by wanting them to be happy when only with you.

2. Am I wanted back?

You might be willing to get back with your ex but if he is not ready to take you back, do not force things. The worst thing is to assume that your ex will always take you back. They too have their lives and the right to date other people if they want to.

3. Have you gained your personal power?

If you are still feeling angry, hurt, betrayed, lonely, abandoned, lost, confused or any other damaging emotions, it is not time yet to rekindle the past flames. You must be completely clear and independent before starting a relationship with your ex.

4. Is it for personal motives.

Most people get back with their exes so as to plot and execute a nice diabolic revenge. Before anything else, assess your emotions and be very honest with yourself.

5. Have you truly let go of the past.

If you are still holding onto various issues from the old bitter past, you will carry them forward into the next one. If you did not trust your partner then, you never will. Even if your ex proves that he has changed but you are still angry about the past, nothing this person does will ever please you.
