Nairobi - 5 people were swept away while 9 were injured after their mini-bus trying to cross a flooded river in Homa Bay failed to make it across.
The incident took place Friday night as the driver of the minibus tried to get past past a bridge on a flooded stream in Agolomwok.
The minibus was ferrying passengers to Nyandhiwa in Migori from Kisumu city.
" We have five fatalities sadly and we have the bodies," Homa Bay Police Commander John Omusanga told News24 on phone, adding that there are some bodies still yet to be accounted for.
" It is sad because we have warned residents to avoid the roads and especially bridges in the aftermath of the rains. We need to be careful so as to protect more lives," he added.
The 9 are admitted at the St Camillus Hospital in Migori, Omusanga added.
The deaths follow other similar ones that have taken lives thanks to the ongoing rains in the country.
Narok County has especially been affected by the rains, with over 30 people so far believed to have died from the floods.
Other areas badly hit are Mandera in the northern part of the country and some part of the Eastern block.
