5 signs of a GOOD man

16 November 2015, 14:53 Shakila Alivitsa

Nairobi - How do you know if a man is good?

They should understand you

The problem most partners make is they generalize on things, ‘but isn’t that not what men/ women do?’ A person that is right for you gets your kinks and creases. They are able to understand that you are just you and not like every other person. They understand where you are coming from with every situation that comes up and are willing to work with you on it not stress you about it. Or integrate it into insults when you are arguing.

They should be able to support you

Regardless of how they feel about a situation or what you want to do, they should be supportive. It can be going back to school, changing a course, having more babies or leaving your current job. A partner who understands you will get your point of view, correct you but also support you.

They are not afraid to speak their mind to you

The reason people lie in relationships is not to hurt someone’s feelings, or not create a situation that will be explosive; so they lie. You and your partner should be able to be open with each other. Most partners would rather watch their partner destruct rather than get the rear end of a foot stuck in them. In the end you have someone trying to dig you out of a deeper pit than what it should have been.

They know when it is not the time to deal with anything with you

A partner who can take themselves out of a situation and come back later to deal with it is priceless in my opinion. It is not them being disrespectful or ignoring you but preventing something explosive. They know you are not solving anything so they walk away until you are sane enough to actually have a conversation. The problem only comes in when people sweep it under the rag and not confront it.

They respect your opinion

The worst kind of relationship is when one partner looks down on you. They think you think as a child. When you talk they raise a newspaper and say they are listening. Or when you talk to other people around him or her you notice them giving pointed looks at other people like they are now rolling their eyes at the back of their heads while you give you ‘small’ opinion. That is very frustrating.
