5 reasons you fail to meet new people

27 August 2015, 19:06 Shakila Alivitsa

Nairobi - Any place is a great place to meet people. Typically, I would say people you meet at the bar or club are not relationship material but what the hell; it is the one of the few places you actually go to have fun and relax after a busy week.

Why are you still single then and not meeting any great people?

You get too drunk

Drunk has never looked good on any one. No one wants to be the one to deal with the drunken spotlight of the party. Having to drag them around, allow them to lean on your shoulder while they doze off or having to keep an eye on you. No one will approach you with that behavior. Drink responsibly so that you can actually have a conversation with someone if they come to talk to you.

Arriving late

I am not saying that you should be there as punctual as when the happy hour starts but it should be in between. Too early and you will be bored alone or get tipsy early. Too late and people will have already left or already coupled up.

You are afraid to approach people so you wait for them to approach you

What is the worst that can happen? They tell you that they are waiting for someone or they give you a condescending look? So what? You will most probably not see them again. If you see someone, sitting alone, and you might like to meet them; go ahead and approach them. That might be your future husband or wife or you already left them to leave with someone else.

Paying attention to the wrong people

You go to a group of people; you target someone, and try to win their attention. They frown at you, are non-receptive or they tell you they are with someone but you still hang around hoping they will change their mind. You have just wasted time and good money on drinks for someone (and their group of friends) who does not want to get to know you. Move on to the next one.

You need a wing man/woman

It is better to approach someone alone because you intimidate them less as compared to doing it with someone. You will now have to figure out the exit strategy for your friend. Then, you might have just made your prey focus on a friend whom she or he might end up liking instead of you.
