5 reasons why the Nairobi woman is perfect for you

19 February 2015, 15:49 Shakila Alivitsa

Nairobi - Nairobi women have had their fair share of slack, but there are reasons why they are the best of the best. Here are a few.

We are self sufficient

If it needs to be done we will get it done. We do not sit around twiddling our thumbs waiting for life to happen. We make it happen for ourselves. Life has taught us that the modern Nairobian man wants to split the bills as well as the dinner date; on that tab we have to have our own taxi money. A Nairobian woman always has money in her purse, even though I tell you otherwise; trust me, we always have a backup plan. If we do not, we stay at home and not go for the date until we do.

We are hardworking (hustlers)

I saw a piece by some Kenyan male writer and he was worrying on why Nairobian women do not make good spouses. One of the reasons was because we may be w***** (a not so ladylike word). His reasoning was that we might earn around KES 20000 but out fare is KES 5000(if you live in Rongai you need to set aside around KES 10000), rent-Kshs 10000, clothes- KES 5000; basically it exceeded what we earn.

Just because I earn a salary does not mean I do not do other things like you (the man) that helps me sustain myself. The Nairobi woman will be in chamas, have stall in town, she might run a blog and still juggle part-time school- all in a day of her trying to make her ends meet. Just because she is not showing you her bank statement, it does not mean she is w…. (The not so ladylike word).

We like the finer things in life, we do not settle.

If we want a certain job, we work hard to get it. If we want a certain type of house, we work hard to afford it. If we want our children to go to a particular type of school we work hard to make it happen and if we want a particular man we admire from a far to be our husband/boyfriend, we go and get him-we do not settle.

That is the rule for the modern Nairobian woman, we do not settle. If we want something we are too hard put to wait, we just go and get it and make it ours. So if you want to build that empire that you dream of, we are the ones that make it happen.

We are competitive

This is very self-explanatory.

We wait for no man that makes us nurturers.

When you are not around, when you are down or when you pull a Houdini and we have no idea where you are. You know very well we will hold up the fort until you decide to show up. We do not wait for our men to make it happen for us, we are fighters and nothing ever brings us down.
