Nairobi - Nairobi Senator Mike Mbuvi Sonko has been named among the National Assembly's worst performers.
A report released Thursday by Mzalendo Trust says that Sonko is among those who contributed next to nothing in the house in the year 2015.
The report says that Sonko has said something in the house officially but says that he has never contributed to anything substantive.
Also, 5 MPs have been named that have never said anything in the house since they were sworn in after the 2013 General Elections.
They are Alex Kosgey (Emgwen), Kipruto Moi (Rongai), Oscar Sudi (Kapseret), Gonzi Rai (Kinango), a long serving Coast MP, and Tirus Ngahu (Kangema).
The report says that they are yet to contribute in the house, shocking considering the number of times the House meets in a year.
"Although the number of speech counts in plenary discussions is not
indicative of the quality of input, it could allude to low capacity to
exercise their parliamentarian roles," Jessica Musila, Mzalendo
Trust's executive director.
Whether the lack of activity directly affects the MP's perception on the ground though, is another issue altogether.
Sonko for example, is loved by his supporters for the effort he puts in to fight for their supposed rights on the ground.
