Nairobi - 5 national schools have been implicated in cheating during the 2014 KCSE examinations.
The schools, which were not named by education CS Jacob Kaimenyi accounted for the 2975 cases of cheating in the 2014 exams.
Cheating, which is a huge problem as far as the exams are concerned in general, reduced by nearly 1,000 cases, with 3,812 cases being reported in 2013.
Kaimenyi confirmed that some of the 2975 cases were in the national schools.
" There were reduced cases of cheating but at the end of the day, we strive to ensure that they reduce completely and are non- existent," he said Tuesday at Mtihani House in Nairobi.
Kaimenyi said that stringent measures by authorities had led to the reduced cases of cheating and urged increased vigilance in 2015.
" I wonder why a national school would admit the cream of the performers and still cheat. If the cream of the national can cheat, what will the rest do," said a surprised Kaimenyi.
According to the results, County schools followed by sub county schools had the highest cases of cheating even though it was still a surprise to see national schools named in the plot.
