Kakamega - At least 47 young men have in the past one week been circumcised at Shikusa Borstal Institution, joining thousands of others who have been initiated into manhood in parts of Western Kenya.
The exercise was conducted by USAID's APHIAplus Western branch in collaboration with the prison authorities after getting permission from the parents of the inmates.
The inmates aged between 15 and 18 years hail from different parts of the country with divergent cultures.
The officer in charge of the prison, Simon Ojwang thanked USAID and World Lomp Relief International which also conducted a free medical camp at the institution to treat prisoners.
Ojwang was particularly happy that the circumcised boys will be leaving the prison as total men after being initiated into manhood.
Officials of World Lomp Relief International led by their Director Richard Vicknnir said the boys were in good health acquiring technical skills that will assist them to fully participate in nation building once released.
