Kampala - The legal and inspection team at the internal affairs ministry on Wednesday arrested 45 Asians from Uganda's capital Kampala and western region district of Kamwenge who have allegedly been working without work permits.
After the arrest, the immigration department screened the suspects and found that out of the 45, only 5 had work permits. Those with permits were set free.
Public relations officer at the immigration department, Jacob Simiyu said, ''Those without permits have been working with foreign road construction companies and others have been working in some of the shop arcades in Kampala.''
Simiyu applauded Uganda Revenue Authority for helping the legal and inspection teams to easily identify the foreigners who have been working on a road construction site without permits.
He added that those without permits are to be deported back to their respective countries of origin. It was established that they are from Pakistan, India and China.
He urged all foreigners working in Uganda to always come along with their work permits as well as other necessary legal documents to avoid falling victims.
All this happened as the department is cracking down on illegal immigrants in the country.
