Nairobi - KES 45 billion has been lost at the Devolution Ministry officials say, uncapping yet another scandal to affect the ministry and CS Anne Waiguru.
According to officials at the Ministry who News24 spoke to, there is agreement that the KES 45 billion, which was collected from the Eurobond Floated by the Government earlier this year has been used in projects that cannot be accounted for or traced.
In a report on the Daily Nation Newspaper, an official was quoted as agreeing so and in a follow up done by News24, the reports were the same.
It is understood that the money was handed to the Ministry for special projects that are unaccounted for.
" There is the missing 45 billion. We do not know where the money is and the officers above us are not responding to queries," an official at the finance department who declined to be named said.
Another senior official at the planning department alluded to the missing money.
" The cash is gone but where to we do not know. That is the report we have received," he added.
A call to CS Waiguru's office went unanswered and it was stated that she was out of office for a few days.
If true, the scandal will by far eclipse the KES 791 million Waiguru is so far under-fire for letting get lost at the National Youth Service NYS.
She has so far refuted calls to step aside over the matter and has also survived an impeachment motion in Parliament.
