43% Jubilee Counties allocation faulted by CORD
01 August 2014, 12:58
Nairobi - The CORD coalition has called false the announcement by president Uhuru Kenyatta that counties have been allocated 43% of national revenue.
Through principals Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula, the coalition insists that the calculation should be based on national budget and not revenue.
They said that the KES 226 Billion sent out to Counties is a far cry from the KES 700 Billion figure it should be in reality of the 43% figure was used.
President Uhuru Kenyatta recently signed the division of revenue bill which he said lifted allocation to counties to KES 226.7 Billion.
" The Jubilee administration is creating a false stand that with the new act, Counties will be given 43% allocation, which is not true at all, they said in a statement.
The government is trying to avert a planned referendum which calls for the increase in funding to devolution.
The CORD coalition, who are sponsoring the referendum have had support from the Council of Governors for the referendum if the allocation is not increased.
