4 things that have ruined Kenyan women

There are things that have ruined Kenyan women, men will say. Some can be avoided, others cant. Here's my point of view.
Any form of social media. We feed off what some other woman
is doing better than us that we can score points off. It is even easier when
you can have something delivered straight off Instagram. If she has a phone
with internet and is on Instagram, just know she has no savings as of right
now. You order the latest pair of shoes and bags from the latest dealer. So and
so went to Oval and posted a pic of
the meal they had last night, so this night with that 5k in your M-Pesa, you go
to some equally expensive place just so as to show you did not have githeri for lunch. It is okay! This
person went to Nyali last week, someone is about to drain their account to wear
a bikini because they are on ‘vacation’. I just have to make sure you know that
you will be broke afterwards so that you do not get confused later on.
It is exciting, and different but it is just a pass time.
This one. We all have obsessions. Even men have theirs. What
you do with your obsession and how far it goes is the problem. You know what I
mean. Even I would like to ‘twerk’
and post it so that I can show my skills.
Be seen at this place so that I can take a pic
and post it. Or wear some outfit that looks the same as…… (You know who). Doing
the latest, being the trendiest and doing what is in has made a lot of young
ladies forget what actually matters because you do not want to be left behind. Who
does not want a lavish lifestyle? How you go about it always catches up, that
is why I have a pause button in my brain.
It is good when you are in the know and it is not bad when
you are aware. What is the icing on the cake is when you are healthy enough to
know how to distance yourself from it all.
Make-up is not bad. Even I wear make-up. The problem is when
you decide to do something without a plan. You will get angry, but admit that
for a lot of Kenyan ladies, you are very lazy which means that at times, you do
things without a plan. Make-up being one of them. You wake up one morning,
tired of looking boring and your face shows it. So, you decide you are going to
have a make-over and the fastest way to achieve that is make-up. No
consultation. No research. If you put up in effort it usually is finding at
least one YouTube video on ‘how to’ and wham, you are in.
That is why when you walk around in Nairobi, you see
ashy-looking young/old women, with smeared colors on their face, wrong
applications and you wonder where they came from. It gets worse when they use
brands not good for them and the hazards show. They came from our version of
what lazy, uninformed women should look like.
Men do not hate
make-up, they just dislike it when you have no idea on how to use something
that you are insistent on otherwise why would the women who easily get
promotions (as some research showed) be the ones wearing the stuff.
I feel like a sigh should come after this statement but at
times I look at some women, so beautiful and I ask why? The color, the
combination of ten colors on one head with some weird braiding and the weird
way some of them rise at the front and are flat at the back. Why?
Weaves are not horrible and/or distasteful; in fact they are
a protective hairstyle when you want to have really healthy hair. Kenyan women
are not the first to put on a weave and they can’t be the ones with the worst
hairstyle. The only points I will give you on this is, I know it is very
expensive to get hair from outside. It is also expensive to get a really good
stylist. Most of our stylists exploit the fact that they are the best at
something with hefty prices hence the very weird styles done by those who have
YouTube saves lives….looks, by the way. Go in there and
there is a ton of information on how something should be properly done. You can
even make it yourself if you can afford bundles (if you insist you are not
lazy). If not stick to the simpler stuff until someone comes up with a way to
get Kenyan women less pricey hair because what is currently on the market, is a
