Nairobi - Four terror suspects have been charged in a Nairobi court for being in possession of substances that can allegedly be used to make explosives.
The four were arrested Sunday in Nairobi's Majengo slum with the substances as well as rolls of bhang after a tip- off from members of the public.
The three males and a female include a Ugandan national. They are Yusuf Kuloba, Jibril Masudi, Wanjiku Mwema and Julius Kariuki.
They were taken to a Nairobi court Thursday morning and charged in-front of chief magistrate Hannah Ndung'u, even though they all denied the charges.
An application for them to be released on bail was rejected by the court, which described them as dangerous individuals.
They were later taken to the Kilimani Police station.
Chief Justice Willy Mutunga has in recent days asked courts to deal with terror suspects and cases in public interest.
This follows complaints from the government and police that the judiciary is frustrating efforts to deal with terror cases.
" The judiciary must not be seen to be aiding terror suspects but rather supporting the plight to stop them, Mutunga said.
