4 suspected gangsters shot dead by police

Nairobi - Kirinyaga police officers
have gunned down four suspected robbers at Mutithi trading centre along
The four were killed by
special crime prevention unit who had followed the suspects from Ngurubani
The gangsters while
armed with two AK 47 rifles were overwhelmed by the police following a shooting
Mwea OCPD, Titus Yoma said
the officers got wind of the suspects heading to the area to commit
a crime and trailed them to the busy Ngurubani market
He said on realizing that
they were being trailed, the suspects started firing at
the officers and a shootout ensued.
Police recovered seven
rounds of ammunition from the suspects.
Yoma said two of the
suspects had been identified with one hailing from Maragua in the
neighboring Murang’a County while the other was from Karatina in Nyeri
" Our forensic experts are on
the way to examine and determine the identity of the remaining two
suspects as investigations continue to establish if the guns recovered
have been used to commit robberies elsewhere," Yoma said.
Residents claimed that the
suspects could have been responsible for last week’s armed robbery at a soda
store where they made off with KES 700,000 in cash while another trader was
robbed KES 800,000.
