4 rules of commitment
21 October 2015, 12:16
Nairobi - Commitment is not straightforward but it can be easy.
Get rid of the idea of something better when you have chosen
the person you are with now
You will never be able to commit to someone if you are
always thinking that you can do better than them. There is always the illusion
of something better when you are in a relationship because that is when the
bees surround the honey but just wait until you are single all that ‘love’ you
were getting; ‘you are such a good bf/gf’, ‘you are such an amazing partner’.
It all goes away and at times by the time you realize you let something good
go, you can never get it back because it
also moved on! If you are in a relationship, then be in that relationship and
make it work.
You cannot have one foot in and the other out
That is wasting the other person’s time. They do not need
that. They cannot be the ones putting in the work thinking you are doing your
best but you are busy with one foot stepping on other people’s grass.
You can only run so far
If your plan is to be single, and be alone then have at it
but if you are planning to be with someone at a later time; make sure you don’t
run so far because you just might miss them. You need to be able to be able to
see someone that is good for you and take a chance with them. You are thinking
there is always the next one but at times good things come only once or twice
and we normally miss them because we thought ‘there is no hurry!’
How other’s is working for them does not necessarily mean
yours has to
You need not be so textbook in your way of thinking when it
comes to relationships and marriage. Yours can turn out better or even worse
depending on your attitude toward it. Go in thinking it is just going to fail
or this is not what you want, then, yes, it will fail. Go in with an open mind
and attitude then it might just work even better for you because couples are
different and you are different.
