4 main reasons why men visit prostitutes

16 August 2016, 09:51 Benard Lugagah

Paid sex is one of the enduring mysteries of human sexuality. Prostitutes are looked down upon as pariahs, operating in a sphere of illegality, immorality and condemnation. They are carriers of disease and destroyers of careers and marriages. Yet in spite of that, some 450,000 to 800,000  johns give employment to about 150,000 prostitutes everyday across Kenya. What is the allure of prostitution that is so compelling that a man will risk his health, his family, his career and even his reputation and pay for sex?

1. Search for thrill

Men claim they visit prostitutes to escape the boring routine sex at home. They claim their women are no longer sexy; they have put on weight and won’t even consider some of their unconventional requests. Or they just feel ashamed asking their partners to do some of those weird things, so they go where there is no shame, where for the right price your kinkiest fantasy can become a reality. For some men, the sexual fantasy is as simple as sleeping with an attractive woman.

2. Loneliness

Most men who have no partners or who find themselves away from their partners may resort to visit prostitutes to assuage their loneliness. This may help explain why prostitution thrives around those places where long distance truck drivers park overnight, and the sudden increase of Chinese prostitutes in Africa. These women come to service their countrymen employed all over the continent building roads and bridges.

Most prostitutes confess that they have been paid not for sex, but for their company, to sit and listen to their patrons, to go out with them and to even live with them for a time.

3. The burden of sex

The premium placed on a man’s ability to satisfy a woman by society proves to be too much for some men. Also, the prospect of facing up to a woman to ask for sex, with all the demands to make an impression and the risk of rejection is quite intimidating. A lot of men will therefore choose a prostitute where there is no need to make an impression and sex is almost guaranteed. Besides, there is no stress to perform. A woman who has been paid won’t mind whether a man lasts only a minute or not. With the burden to perform taken off his shoulders, he finds the experience enjoyable and well worth the cost and risk.

4. Addiction to sex

Other men are simply addicted to sex and find that no one woman can satisfy their libido. Because of high levels of testosterone, these men find they constantly need the excitement of sex. This excitement wanes once they have been with a single woman for any length of time. Like a drug, they need more and more to achieve the same level of arousal and satisfaction. Constant change is necessary for them. These are the men, who like Tiger Woods, will have a wife at home, a string of mistresses and still pay a lot of money to have sex with prostitutes.
